Female r&b/soul vocalists are rated by their ability, in their prime, for vocal range, ability to convey emotion, power, versatility, and uniqueness. Numerous artists, not usually considered disco artists, implemented some of the styles and sounds of disco music, and are also included.
Many of the best black female singers have reached the top of the charts with their catchy tunes. Based on record sales and awards, several women top the list as the most popular talented divas. It is from this fervor that a current exhibition at the brooklyn museum gets its title:

As somebody who didn't really grow up around alot of black people until i went to a prominent hbcu, these people influenced my images of blacks as a whole when i was a kid. R&b duets became incredibly popular in the 80s and 90s and this trend has continued.
